Valle Nevado Ski Resort is probably the best ski area in Chile. With a great location only 35 miles away from the Santiago airport this destination is always a must when skiing Chile.

There are several facts that put Valle Nevado among the top three resorts in South America. Its location right in the middle of the Central High Andes and still about 90 minutes away from Santiago, the hotels altitude reaching over 3,025 meters (9,925 ft.), the snow quality and quantity received every year – over 21 ft. of champagne powder – and the many activities available for day and night confirm it.

The road that access Valle Nevado is quite unique. With 80 turns – which are numbered and named after known Chilean citizens – the views of the nearby peaks, the magnificent condors and the city of Santiago are unforgettable.

Valle Nevado terrain is known for its variety. The resort offers runs for all ability levels and thanks to a lift link system you can ski in and out of the adjacent resorts of La Parva and El Colorado. Together the three resorts make the largest skiable area in South America with more than 100 runs and 40 lifts.

When it comes to groomers Valle nevado features long and wide runs specially recommended for the intermediate and advanced skier and snowboarder. Though there are steeps trails this is more an intermediate to advanced resort.

For those looking for adventure there are 20-minute to 2-hour hikes worth the effort. And of course helicopters access some of the best terrain in the nearby valleys of Olivares and Parraguirre including wide open bowls, steep narrow chutes and everything in between.

As most Central Andes ski resorts Valle Nevado has a 4-month season running from mid June to mid October. During this period we usually suggest the month of August as a great time to come as it features excellent snow conditions, great weather and not many skiers on the slopes. July host the local, Argentinean and Brazilian holidays meaning higher rates will apply and more people will be there too.

The beginning of the season in June is the “special deals” time of the year. Snow conditions will be really nice but expect really low temperatures and frequent snowfalls. September is another fantastic month to ski Valle Nevado as it combines superb powder – first two weeks – and spring/corn conditions during the last two weeks and well into October.

Valle Nevado is a great place to ski hard but to enjoy and relax at the same time. After a full day on the slopes many guests join the streatching classes that take place at the gym. Others relax at the outdoor hot tub and hang out there until the sun goes down.

A very popular meeting point is the Lounge Bar at the Valle Nevado hotel. This is the place to share daily stories and to plan a cool evening. For dinner restaurants offer French, Italian, Chilean and international cuisine as well.

Guests looking for more fun go to the Tres Puntas hotel bar where live music is on all night and the local disco is always a great option to stay up late.
On a more active side of your stay those looking for the thrill can choose to go heli-skiing for a run, a full day or more. It is always recommended to book your seat in advance as heli-skiing is really popular in Valle Nevado.

As you may have noticed Valle Nevado is an important stop at most of our tours. We decided to include this great resort as it offers a wide variety of things including a large terrain, excellent snow quality, great runs and a really fun off-piste. But on top of these facts we always encourage our guests to spend at least a day heli-skiing. Whether you are an experienced heli-skier or you are taking your first step – into a world from which you never come back! – there is enough terrain that pleases all interests and levels.

If you are looking for resort skiing then this is the right place to be as groomers here are really nice and fun and the chance to ski the adjacent resorts of La Parva and El Colorado definitely enhance your experience.
But if you are looking for steep, challenging, hard core terrain – and hiking or heli-skiing are not options for you – then you may want to consider another destination. We will be glad to point you in the right direction.
