Pucon ski resort is a quite new area located at the north face of the Villarica volcano, one of the 10 most active volcanoes in the world! The base city for this resort is Pucon at the west shore of the Villarica lake and it is located 19 kilometers away.

Most foreign skiers either fly to Temuco connecting in Santiago de Chile previously or come from Argentina crossing via the international road thought Villa La Angostura – opened in winter time - or via the Lake Crossing which connects the city of Bariloche with the small town of Puerto Varas.

Pucon is one of the most important destinations in the Chilean Lake District and it receives visitors all year round. The scenery here is truly amazing as several volcanoes are in the area as well as cystal-clear lakes and deep forests.

Ski Pucon is a really special resort as the volcano and the lava flows offers fantastic bowls and natural pipes making this a super fun area. Even when the resort terrain may be a bit limited the possibility of hiking to the volcano crater makes it totally worth the trip here.

The resort vertical comes to a bit more than 2,200 feet but when reaching the crater it is a total different story: over 5,000 vertical feet through steep lines, open bowls and deep powder. As a northwest-facing resort snow may get more affected by sun and winds than other ski areas.

The ski resort offers several groomed trails for all ability levels being a special place for intermediate and advanced skiers and riders.

Even when Ski Pucon is not a high Andean resort the ski season begins in mid/late June and closes in late September or early October. The best snow conditions will be found in July and August having at that time the best chances to ski deep powder from top to bottom.

During June and September excellent snow conditions will be found as well but keep in mind even when June features really good conditions snowpack won’t be as thick as late in the season and rocks may be right under the snow surface. September combines dry powder with a more humid quality towards the end of the month.
When temperatures start rising the snow changes pretty fast and lower sections of the mountain will get humid snow and slush while higher parts will have great corn.

Ski Pucon is a quite small ski area with 5 double chairs and 4 surface lifts but this mountain has a lot of potential for terrain and lift system expansion. The base area offers all services expected at a ski resort including a restaurant and cafeteria, ski shop, rental and medical facilities.

The town of Pucon located along the Villarica lake west shore offers several accommodation opportunities from high-end hotels and lodges to standard inns and cabins. This picturesque Patagonian town offers several restaurants and bars as well as typical handy crafts shops.
